If you want to get a muscular look, the fastest way to do this is to get lean. If you have average muscles, you will look good if you are cut. But nothing beats the look of good muscles. For anyone who wants to get cut muscles, getting toned abs is usually their number 1 goal. Here I will explain how to do it.

Okay, so first off, what does "ripped" actually mean? Good muscle definition shows nicely when a person has body fat of 20% or less. According to doctors, the health range is between 14 and 20%. But if you want abs to show through you have to be below 14%. From my own personal experience, the average "normal weight" person is between 25 and 30%, with fairly serious regular lifters in the 18-23% range, and serious muscle builders having 12 to 17%. It just goes to show, even a 5% difference in body fat can really determine your chances of being ripped. Here's why: a guy weighing 200 lbs with a body fat of 25% has 50 lbs of fat on his body. Getting down to 20% body fat will require losing 13 lbs of all body fat. Now he weighs 187 lbs with 37 lbs of fat. If the 13 lbs of weight loss is made up of half-and-half muscle and fat, then he will still have 23% body fat. So as you can see a 5% body fat reduction is hard to come by, unless you are losing ONLY FAT. So here is the big question. What's the best way to lose body fat? Answer:

Very, very slowly.

Some people say that it's only possible to lose 2 lbs of fat each week without also losing muscle. They are wrong. Millionaires with dieticians and chefs can. But for the rest of us, it's a non-starter. Unless you are either a millionaire or a professional body builder your goal is a pound of fat a week. However, some people will tell you it's possible to lose get cut in just 6 to 8 weeks, and this is true. but this will mean cutting your daily calorie intake down to only 1000-1300 and still seeing half your weight loss come off as muscle mass. I think I'll pass on that.

If you want to do it the healthy way, then you must cut 500 calories from your daily intake. Processed carbohydrates and sugar should be your main focuss when deciding which foods to remove from your daily intake. Spread your remaining calorie intake evenly through the day (tthough you will speed up fat loss if you eat more in the AM than in the PM) and finish with a slow release protein shake one hour before going to bed (although make sure this is milk, egg or soy rather than whey). This will enable you to lose 2% of your body fat every month. After just 3 months you will have a muscle mass that has remained the same but your body fat will have dropped enough for the muscle to show throough!
